ProtoHR
Built for GOSI · End-of-Service · SANED · Nitaqat

HR and payroll software that gets Saudi Arabia right.

GOSI contributions, end-of-service award, and Nitaqat-ready Saudization tracking — calculated correctly on every payroll run, for Saudi nationals and expatriates alike. Saudi is the most complex GCC market for a reason: both nationals and expats carry GOSI obligations, unlike the UAE, Qatar, Oman, or Kuwait.

Built for the Saudi market

Not a global tool with a currency toggle.
A dedicated Saudi Arabia compliance engine.

— 01

GOSI, correct for nationals and expats alike

Saudi nationals contribute 10% (9.75% annuity + 0.25% occupational hazard); employers add 12% (9.75% annuity + 2% occupational hazard + 0.25% SANED). Expatriates contribute 0%, but employers still owe 2% occupational hazard on every one of them — the rule most spreadsheets get wrong.

— 02

End-of-service award, calculated to Article 84

Half a month's basic salary per year for the first five years, a full month per year after that — with the resignation tiers (nothing under two years, a third of the award from two to ten, two-thirds beyond ten) applied automatically at termination.

— 03

Nitaqat-ready Saudization tracking

ProtoHR tracks your Saudi-national versus non-Saudi headcount ratio as employees are added or leave, giving you the visibility Nitaqat compliance requires — without ProtoHR filing Nitaqat reports on your behalf.

Payroll that speaks SAR

Saudi Arabia is a native payroll country: Saudi Riyals by default, a 1 January fiscal year, and generated payslips with GOSI and every other deduction broken out line by line.

“Does GOSI even apply to this employee” is the wrong question to be answering by hand every payday. In Saudi Arabia the answer is always yes — nationals and expats both — and the rate simply depends on who they are.

Set an employee’s nationality once. Every payroll run after that applies the correct GOSI contribution rate — 10%/12% for Saudis, 0%/2% for expatriates — with each deduction itemized on the payslip.

01

Set your country to Saudi Arabia

SAR becomes your default currency and your fiscal year is set to 1 January automatically.

02

Mark each employee's nationality

Saudi national or expatriate — this is what determines the GOSI contribution rate on both sides.

03

Run payroll

GOSI and end-of-service accrual are calculated automatically, itemized on the payslip, and ready for review before disbursement.

Underneath the surface

The compliance details,
taken seriously.

Most payroll tools bolt Saudi Arabia on as an afterthought — a currency symbol and a flat contribution rate. Here is what is actually built into ProtoHR’s Saudi Arabia compliance engine.

GOSI base and the SAR 45,000 cap

Contributions are calculated on basic salary plus housing allowance, capped at SAR 45,000 per month — applied automatically whether the employee is Saudi or expatriate.

Two contribution tables, one system

Saudi nationals: 10% employee / 12% employer. Expatriates: 0% employee / 2% employer. ProtoHR applies the right table per employee based on nationality — no manual lookup.

SANED unemployment insurance included

The 0.25% SANED unemployment insurance component is folded into the employer's 12% GOSI contribution for Saudi nationals, tracked and reported alongside the rest of GOSI.

End-of-service, both termination and resignation

Termination pays the full Article 84 award. Resignation pays nothing under two years, a third of the award from two to ten years, and two-thirds beyond ten — calculated automatically from hire date and last basic salary.

No income tax to worry about

Saudi Arabia levies no personal income tax on salaries, so payroll runs without a withholding calculation — net pay is simply gross salary less GOSI.

Saudization ratio, visible at a glance

See your Saudi-national share of headcount update in real time as you hire, terminate, or reclassify employees — useful context for your Nitaqat band, without ProtoHR overstepping into filing on your behalf.

Payslips with every deduction itemized

GOSI appears as a separate line item on every payslip, with the employer's matching contribution noted alongside it — so an employee (or an auditor) can see exactly how net pay was calculated.

An audit log that answers questions

Every change to a salary, a payroll run, or an employee record is recorded with who made it, when, their IP address, and the before/after values.

One platform, no patchwork

Replace the spreadsheet
and the compliance guesswork.

Stop maintaining a hand-built GOSI table alongside a separate end-of-service tracker and a third spreadsheet for your Nitaqat ratio. ProtoHR keeps your entire Saudi workforce — and its statutory obligations — in one place.

Questions Saudi teams actually ask

Before you switch,
the honest answers.

Does ProtoHR file GOSI on your behalf?

No — and we want to be upfront about that. ProtoHR calculates the correct GOSI contributions for both Saudi national and expatriate employees on every pay run, itemized and ready to hand to your accountant or filing system. Filing and remittance to GOSI stays with you.

Do expats really pay GOSI too?

This trips a lot of people up, so to be precise: the expatriate employee themselves contributes 0% — nothing is deducted from their pay for GOSI. But the employer still owes 2% occupational hazard insurance on every expatriate on the payroll. Saudi Arabia is the only GCC country where expats trigger any employer social-insurance obligation at all — in the UAE, Qatar, Oman, and Kuwait, expat employees carry zero social-insurance obligation for either side. ProtoHR applies the right 2% employer-only charge automatically.

Can we run payroll in SAR?

Yes. Saudi Arabia is a fully supported payroll country — SAR is the default currency, and your fiscal year defaults to 1 January.

How is our data protected?

Each organization's data is isolated by PostgreSQL row-level security at the database layer, every sensitive change is captured in an audit log with who, when, and what changed, and access is controlled by role-based permissions with SSO/SAML support.

What does it cost?

Your first 10 employees are free, forever, with full product access. Beyond that it's a flat per-employee monthly rate with volume discounts at 51 and 101 employees — see the pricing page for exact SAR figures.
