PIFSS, calculated for Kuwaiti nationals

Social Insurance Law No. 61 of 1976, as amended by Law No. 97 of 2010 — 7.5% employee and 11% employer on the insured wage (basic salary only, excluding allowances), up to the KWD 2,750/month ceiling, with the government's 2.5% state supplement tracked alongside.

— 02

End-of-service indemnity, done right for expats

Article 51 of Kuwait Labour Law (Law No. 6 of 2010) — 15 days of basic salary per year for the first five years, then a full month's basic salary per year beyond that, computed proportionally as service accrues. No cap, no manual spreadsheet.

— 03

No income tax to worry about

Kuwait levies no personal income tax on employment income. ProtoHR's payroll engine reflects that by default — gross pay minus statutory deductions is net pay, nothing more to withhold.

— 04

Payroll that speaks KWD

Kuwait is a native payroll country: Kuwaiti Dinars by default, a 1 January fiscal year, and generated payslips with every statutory deduction broken out line by line — fils and all.

“Is this employee on PIFSS or indemnity” is the wrong question to be answering by hand every payday. It should be settled the moment you assign an employee’s nationality status — not re-derived every month from a spreadsheet someone built two years ago.

Mark an employee as Kuwaiti national or expatriate once. Every payroll run after that applies the correct PIFSS contribution or end-of-service indemnity accrual — with each figure itemized on the payslip.

Up and running in minutes

No implementation partner.
No spreadsheet migration.

01

Set your country to Kuwait

KWD becomes your default currency and your fiscal year is set to 1 January automatically.

02

Mark each employee's nationality status

Kuwaiti national or expatriate — this is what determines whether PIFSS or end-of-service indemnity applies.

03

Run payroll

PIFSS contributions or indemnity accrual are calculated automatically, itemized on the payslip, and ready for review before disbursement.

Underneath the surface

The compliance details,
taken seriously.

Most payroll tools bolt Kuwait on as an afterthought — a currency symbol and nothing else. Here is what is actually built into ProtoHR’s Kuwait compliance engine.

PIFSS contributions, exactly as legislated

7.5% employee and 11% employer on the insured wage — basic salary only, allowances excluded — up to the KWD 2,750/month ceiling, applied automatically to every Kuwaiti national employee.

The state's 2.5% supplement, tracked

The government's 2.5% contribution to PIFSS is paid by the state, not the employer or employee — ProtoHR shows it for full visibility without adding it to your payroll cost.

End-of-service indemnity for every expat

Under Article 51, the first five years accrue at 15 days of basic salary per year; each year beyond five accrues at a full month's basic salary. Daily salary is derived as (monthly basic × 12) / 365, and the running liability updates with every payroll cycle.

Kuwaitis vs. expatriates, handled correctly

Kuwaiti nationals are covered by the PIFSS pension scheme, not indemnity; expatriates accrue indemnity, not PIFSS. ProtoHR applies the right regime automatically based on each employee's nationality status.

A fiscal year that matches Kuwait's

Payroll and reporting default to a 1 January fiscal year when you set your organization to Kuwait, so your numbers line up with the calendar year most Kuwaiti businesses report on.

Payslips with every deduction itemized

PIFSS (where applicable) and indemnity accrual appear as separate line items on every payslip — so an employee, or an auditor, can see exactly how net pay and end-of-service liability were calculated.

An audit log that answers questions

Every change to a salary, a payroll run, or an employee record is recorded with who made it, when, their IP address, and the before/after values.

Tenant isolation at the database

Your company's data is separated from every other tenant by PostgreSQL row-level security — enforced at the database, not by application code remembering to filter.

One platform, no patchwork

Replace the spreadsheet
and the compliance guesswork.

Stop maintaining a hand-built PIFSS tracker alongside a separate end-of-service indemnity spreadsheet. ProtoHR keeps your entire Kuwaiti workforce — and its statutory obligations — in one place.

Questions Kuwaiti teams actually ask

Before you switch,
the honest answers.

Does ProtoHR file my PIFSS contributions on my behalf?

No — and we want to be upfront about that. ProtoHR calculates the correct PIFSS contribution for every Kuwaiti national employee on each pay run, itemized and ready to hand to your accountant or filing system. Filing and remittance to PIFSS stays with you.

Do expatriate employees get PIFSS?

No. PIFSS applies only to Kuwaiti nationals in the private sector — expatriates make no PIFSS contribution at all. Instead, expatriates accrue end-of-service indemnity under Article 51 of Kuwait Labour Law, which ProtoHR calculates automatically as service builds up.

Can we run payroll in KWD?

Yes. Kuwait is a fully supported payroll country — KWD is the default currency, amounts are tracked precisely down to the fils, and your fiscal year defaults to 1 January.

How is end-of-service indemnity calculated for someone who's worked more than five years?

The first five years accrue at 15 days of basic salary per year of service. Every year beyond that accrues at a full month's basic salary, using a daily rate of (monthly basic salary × 12) / 365. There's no cap under the law, and ProtoHR recalculates the running liability with every payroll cycle.

How is our data protected?

Each organization's data is isolated by PostgreSQL row-level security at the database layer, every sensitive change is captured in an audit log with who, when, and what changed, and access is controlled by role-based permissions with SSO/SAML support.

What does it cost?
